Southstream’s Carmine Intrieri Deepens Seafood Leadership at NFI Future Leaders Program
Southstream Seafoods is proud to share that Carmine Intrieri—who has been an integral part of our team since 1995—recently participated in the second session of the NFI Future Leaders program, held in Juneau, Alaska. As with every step of this industry-leading initiative, Carmine’s presence reflects our commitment not only to excellence in sourcing and operations, but to the long-term sustainability and health of the global seafood community.
While the first session in Washington, D.C. was centered on policy and advocacy, Alaska brought seafood into sharper, more personal focus. In Juneau, participants went straight to the source—connecting directly with the waters, the species, and the people shaping seafood’s future.
From boat tours through Auke Bay, observing salmon fishing and visiting an oyster farm, to on-site processing visits at Alaska Glacier Seafoods, the week offered a front-row seat to the realities and innovations of the supply chain. The group also visited the DIPAC/Macaulay Salmon Hatchery, which raises and releases millions of salmon annually, reinforcing Alaska’s commitment to responsible resource management.
The trip was far from theoretical. Through hands-on experiences and direct conversations with stakeholders—from ASMI to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game and the North Pacific Fishery Management Council—Carmine and his fellow participants explored critical topics like food security, community partnerships, and the science behind sustainable harvesting. The group also spent time volunteering at the Southeast Alaska Food Bank, reinforcing the vital human impact of the seafood economy.
As a long-time team member and industry veteran, Carmine brought both experience and curiosity to every session. His insights and leadership continue to strengthen our internal culture at Southstream, while positioning us to lead in a market that demands transparency, innovation, and integrity.
Next stop: Boston. As the Future Leaders program continues, so does our investment in the people behind Southstream—because real leadership doesn’t just happen in the boardroom. It’s forged in the field, on the docks, and in communities like Juneau.
